Last year the children and I had a wonderful time getting the opportunity to pay it forward with school supplies. During the holiday season we spent time volunteering at the Salvation Army Angel Tree program. It’s back to school time and we once again get a chance to help another family out with some back to school supplies and also a unique experience to see how the generosity of one family and one business could cause even more generosity in our community to grow.
Thanks to the generosity of one of our favorite businesses, Campus Book Rentals we were able to go shopping for school supplies to help another family which needed some help with the expenses of back to school. Campus Book Rentals offers us a way to get books for high school and college for a lot less than regular prices as well as offers college students a way to make money when they rent their own used books out. They also support Operation Smile. Find out more about Campus Book Rentals and Operation Smile.
This year for back to school, our donation came from Campus Book Rentals which provided each of approximately 85 bloggers with $25.00 to use the best way we could to provide school supplies for those in need of some help with back to school.
Ready set shop! Look at what we GOT! 10 folders with and without brads, hand sanitizer, ziploc bags, tissues, 4 spiral bound notebooks, two pairs of scissors, 6 erasers, 18 pencils, 24 pens, glue bottles, glue sticks and even more! We even managed to pick up a back pack on sale for almost $10 at Target.
Talking to some local businesses (and friends) they were so excited about this idea and decided to join right in! a local Thirty One owner decide to contribute to our event! She donated a lunch box/cinch sack for one little boy. The owner of “From Our Home to Yours” (Houston) is letting any shopper come in and fill a bag with clothing for just $5.00! Grab the bag she provides and stuff it full of clothing, hair accessories even shoes if you like and what’s in the bag is only $5.00. We discussed her making a clothing donation to the student we are helping, but this was even better and hopefully the help is going a whole lot farther!
Through Campus Book Rentals generous efforts almost 100 families received a little (and in some cases) a lot of help with their back to school supply expenses. I think what was most fulfilling for us was having my children work with me to come up with the back to school supplies that families would need to take to school as well as watching how quickly one small effort to pay it forward could grow.
My girls said to me, “It may seem small but even just one donation can do big things can’t it mommy?” They are so right!
