We have been through the chore charts. We have been through the list (they are hanging on the wall at this very moment). Our most successful chore chart incentive program was “brownie points” and that lasted for about three months. We have done the stickers and cards, the rewards and I was actually getting ready to do a jar system when I learned about MyJobChart.com today. Knowing of my children’s fascination with my iPad I thought what a great idea! So, off I went to create my account.
First, MyJobChart.com is FREE! Hooray! You can set your account up online (I highly recommend setting it up there first) and then download the app to your iPad so there’s no excuses. It’s so easy, just my name and email and then I create a profile for each one of the kids. This means more than one child can be on the profile!
Next I select the child and the list of chores. I can select from a pull down menu or I can create a custom chore and type it in myself. There is a small assortment, so those with younger ones should easily set it up while those with older children may need to do more custom chores. You can pick days of the week, one time events and also select from morning or nighttime chores or both. For example I take care of the dog in the morning with food, water and taking him out but Cece is expected to take care of those chores after school.
Then you select the points you want to assign to each task. This one was a little harder. You want to give them enough incentive to do them, but not so much that they quickly earn their credits.
The points are actually “credits” of a sort. They can use these to 1) save (you can designate a bank account to send it to) 2) spend (you can set up a wish list and even add items from Amazon. My daughter’s first reward added to her spend list was the brand new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. Or you can share, with your child donating some of their credits to a worth charity, cause, and non-profit organization. Pretty cool huh?!
So, there its is. It’s SO SUPER EASY and my daughter’s LOVE it. The have a list of chores in front of them that they are to do in in the AM and in the PM. They can use the summary to keep track.
Oh, one more thing, I can also send them messages and they can send them to me. Now before you worry, this is an internal system, within our family. It’s so neat, I can say thank you, leave a message about extra chores or tell them how wonderful they are doing. They can ask me questions and message me back. The only way someone could get into it is if they have your user email address and password for the system AND the system.
We are all super excited about this new method of doing our chores. MyJobChart.com has so many nice attributes, I’m hopeful that it will stick around a whole lot longer than my sticker chart did!
